Former teen heartthrob and “The Partridge Family” star David Cassidy has been hospitalized due to organ failure, his publicist Jo-Ann Geffen confirmed to Variety on Saturday.
Geffen confirmed to “Extra” later in the day, “He is in liver and kidney failure. Currently he is conscious after being in an induced coma and he is surrounded by his family.”
A source close to Cassidy told “Extra” exclusively that the support pouring in from around the world has not only been “insane,” but “medical experts are offering advice and people have offered their organs for transplant.” According to the source, Cassidy could survive if he receives a new liver.
Cassidy, 67, had announced his dementia diagnosis earlier this year following an unsteady live performance.
Cassidy is considered one of the most popular teen idols of all time, one who later struggled with alcohol dependency that led to several DUI arrests. He filed for bankruptcy in 2015, but continued performing.
He is the son of the late Tony winner Jack Cassidy; stepson of Oscar winner and “Partridge Family” co-star Shirley Jones; half-brother of fellow performers Shaun Cassidy, Ryan Cassidy and Patrick Cassidy; and is the father of actors Katie and Beau Cassidy.
